What is an Administrator-in-Training?
An Administrator-in-Training (AIT) is someone gaining supervised experience toward nursing home administrator licensure through a training route recognized by their state. The required education, hours, program length and exams depend on the state and the applicant’s background.
What does a preceptor do?
A preceptor guides the training experience. Your board’s rules determine who can supervise, how the training plan is approved and how work must be documented. For example, Virginia requires an approved training plan and monthly progress reports.
Where should you start?
- Check your board’s eligibility and application requirements.
- Confirm your training route and any approval needed before starting.
- Agree on a rotation plan and review routine with your preceptor.
- Keep the records and reports your board requires.
- Follow your board’s instructions for exams and the license application.
How AITpath helps
AITpath gives you a place to organize hours, rotation tasks, learning and reflections. The linked preceptor plan connects guidance and review with that work. The software does not grant a license or replace required board forms.
